About Us

The MAP Foundation aims to help break down the communication barriers between patients and health care professionals. Through creative expression we achieve a greater awareness of the emotional needs in relation to life threatening illness, thereby reducing a sense of isolation.

The MAP Foundation was founded in 2002 by Michele Angelo Petrone to help people give expression to their emotional landscape while living with cancer.

What we do

  • Provide trained and experienced facilitators to deliver arts-based workshops to patients, carers, medical and allied health professionals on the emotional and spiritual aspects of life-threatening illness
  • Communicate what is learned from these activities at conferences, exhibitions, workshops, publications and on this website
  • Engage with research institutions and policy makers to improve the patient experience for those living with any life-threatening experience

What we provide

  • Workshops for cancer patients, carers and health professionals run by trained and experienced facilitators
  • Books, pictures and accounts of people's experiences of cancer
  • Exhibitions on loan
  • Talks and lectures
  • Educational training materials on the patients' experience for medical and nursing education
